Synchronicities, Signs & Angel Numbers: How I Read Them

The Universe Speaks in Many Ways

Have you ever felt like the universe was speaking directly to you? Maybe you keep seeing repeating numbers on the clock, a hummingbird zips past you several times in a single day, or a dragonfly crosses your path when you’re deep in thought. These are not accidents — they’re signs, synchronicities, and angel numbers, the universe’s language of guidance. In this blog, I’ll share how to read the universe’s signs and synchronicities in a way that feels personal, grounded, and aligned with your own expansion.

What Are Signs vs. Synchronicities?

People often use these words interchangeably, but they’re slightly different.

  • A Sign is a single message or symbol that grabs your attention.
    • Example: You’re struggling with a decision, and a hawk flies directly overhead as if to remind you to rise above the situation.
    • Example: You ask the universe for reassurance and suddenly see the word trust painted on a mural.
  • A Synchronicity is when two or more events align in a way that feels too meaningful to be “just chance.”
    • Example: You’re thinking about switching jobs, and in the same week three different people (who don’t know each other) bring up that same company.
    • Example: You’ve been journaling about boundaries, and the next podcast you listen to is titled The Power of No.

The distinction matters less than the felt experience — both are ways the universe mirrors back to you what you most need to hear.

Angel Numbers Explained

Angel numbers are one of the most common signals. They’re repeating number patterns that carry energetic meaning. And no, they’re not always just three digits (like 111 or 222). They can show up as:

  • Repeating triplets: 111, 444, 999
  • Sequences: 1234, 456
  • Mirror numbers: 1212, 1221
  • Multiples: 1010, 2020

How do you know if it’s an angel number or “just a number”?

  • It sticks out to you. You notice it multiple times, in different places.
  • It feels charged. You catch yourself pausing, thinking “strange, there it is again.”
  • It aligns with your inner state. You were just thinking about something, and the number shows up right after.

The meaning of the number matters less than the moment it appears. That’s where your intuition comes in.

If you’re curious to go deeper into the meaning of numbers, I love the book Signs: The Secret Language of the Universe. It’s a trusted guide that explores how messages show up in daily life.

My Experience When Dragonflies and Hummingbirds Show Up

For me, some of the clearest signs have been when dragonflies or hummingbirds show up again and again.

  • There was a season when dragonflies kept appearing around me — not once, but multiple times in a short period. At the time, I was questioning if I was stepping into my path fully. Their presence reminded me of transformation, adaptability, and the call to keep growing.
  • On another occasion, I noticed hummingbirds flying by me several times in a single day while I was holding heavy thoughts. For me, they carried the reminder to return to joy and presence, even when my mind wanted to spiral elsewhere.

These weren’t accidents. They arrived at moments when I was silently asking the universe questions — and the timing felt too exact to ignore.

Animals & Symbolism

Another way the universe sends us signs and synchronicities is through animals. Do certain animals always mean the same thing? Yes and no. Across traditions, some themes are consistent:

  • Butterflies — transformation, renewal.
  • Owls — wisdom, seeing what’s hidden.
  • Hummingbirds — joy, presence, the sweetness of life.
  • Dragonflies — transformation, lightness, shifting perspective.

But the most important question is always: What did this animal mean to me in that exact moment? Sometimes the universe borrows a symbol from your own memory bank, not a spiritual textbook.

When I wanted to understand more about animals as synchronicities, Animal Speak was an invaluable resource. It gives insight without feeling too abstract or “woo.”

Embodying Synchronicities

Noticing is the first step. But the real magic happens when you act on what you’re receiving.

  • Saw 555? Ask yourself where change is unfolding, and take one small step toward welcoming it.
  • Dragonflies keep appearing? Journal about where you’re being invited to shift or transform.
  • Hummingbirds dart past you? Pause and breathe in joy, even if life feels heavy.

Sometimes grounding isn’t just about noticing a sign — it’s about embodying the reminder in your daily life. I love my Revolutionary by Nature T-shirt for that reason. On the days I need to choose presence over perfection, wearing it feels like carrying the message with me — a gentle nudge toward alignment.

This is how you strengthen the muscle of trust. The universe reflects, but you choose whether to step forward. Expansion isn’t something you “finish” — it’s a lifelong unfolding. In the void, signs whisper louder—I share how here.

When synchronicities show up, I often anchor them with ritual — journaling, lighting a candle, or even creating moonwater as a way of honoring the moment. If you’re curious about how to make moonwater for healing and guidance, I share a step-by-step guide here.

Tips for Reading the Universe’s Synchronicities

  • Keep a synchronicity journal — write down dates, numbers, animals, dreams, and what was happening in your life.
  • Create stillness — signs are easier to catch when your nervous system isn’t overloaded.
  • Don’t over-analyze — if it feels meaningful, it is. Trust your first instinct.

Remember: the answers are already inside you. The sign is just a mirror.

Tip: I keep a synchronicity journal by my side so I can write down numbers, dreams, or animals as they appear. If you don’t already have one, here’s a beautiful blank gratitude journal I recommend for this practice.

Expansion is Never Finished

The universe is always speaking — through numbers, animals, dreams, and perfectly timed coincidences. Learning how to read the universe’s signs and synchronicities is about listening, practicing trust, and letting those external nudges strengthen your inner knowing. Signs often surface with shadows—I wrote more here.

Expansion is never “done.” It’s the ongoing practice of staying awake to the conversation the universe is already having with you.
